We saw Ron for the first time on 5th of Nov (remember) at Komedia, which was a fairly informal venue with tables set up (we got right at the front) & a bar for drinks. The support Madison Violet, got off to a good start with close harmony singing backed with acoustic guitars, a bit more Country than we would choose. The crowd liked them, but backed off when they tried to get everyone to sing along (Please! We're English!) When Ron came on the crowd gave him a good reception & he was amiable & chatty. We don't know his catalogue well enough to give a set list (we saw someone pick it up at the end) but knew a few from the new album which Ron introduced by saying that Tim would play all the instruments on the album versions using his electric guitar! The effect of this was great, just Ron's acoustic, Tim's electric & Jason's upright bass gave a great sound. He asked which albums we liked so he could play songs from them, the crowd responded with a resounding "all of them!" He alternated between his acoustic guitar (which Tim wanted louder in his moniter and Ron joked "he can't get enough of that sweet sound") and a piano. He played "Gold in Them Hills" on piano, he claimed not to be very good on piano, but to us seemed more than just good. We wish we could give a track by track analysis, but we can't. The encore included "Former Glory" & "One Last Round" which we recorded (see Youtube
on video. The other songs in the encore were on piano & the monitor got in the way of the camera. We would love to hear from anyone who has an audio recording of the show.
On the way out we saw Jason having a smoke & exchanged a few words, he was very friendly.
