Exit Stretegy - Favourite Song
Hello Community. Just picked up the new disk. I think it's great, but for a few reasons "Hard Time" stands out for me. The song is beautiful, and easily my new favourite Ron song. Does anyone else have a song that really stands out? Nathan "Well, I've got this little shell, and it serves me pretty well, as it keeps the dangers out, and me inside, where I hide, I'm a crab" http://www.pinnacle-creations.com/nathanblackburn/

Hi Nathan -- "Chased By Love" is the one the hits my gut the hardest. Hard Time is up there, too. He sings the shite out of that one, does he not??? slim

O yeah, "Hard Time" surely... but for the moment "Ghost of a Chance" is my fav. I think the album has got some of my favourite lyrics ever by the way.

I really love Brighter Still, but I think that Music to My Ears is the winner. The way he sings "...memories so cle-ah" and "...longs to disappea-ah" has a McCartney-esque quality that I really like.

Slim, At the moment this is my favorite too. But do you know what it's about? I like the crooning and the flow of the lyrics, but I don't know what the lyrics mean. -M

Re: Exit Stretegy - Favourite Song
Hi Marjay -- well, I know what it means to me. When I first
heard it I felt it was about still needing love, or love and youthful
infatuation, despite one's age and all that has passed, and despite
one's alienation and depression, and despite how difficult an existing
relationship may be. Or something like that. And I've stuck to that
personal meaning even tho it's probably way off. I'm looking at the
verse lyrics now, and ... I guess Ron may not have meant for this lyric
to be obvious. Maybe the "whirlwind prisoner" is the wild child/real self that we lock away and wall up behind our adulthood.

Re: Exit Strategy - Favourite Song
Thanks, Slim. I guess the best songs are the ones that leave room for interpretation and where you can project your own thoughts and feelings. Of course..."chased by love; embraced by love" is a universal need (just like youuuuu). Thanks for your insights! -M

Re: Exit Strategy - Favourite Song
My fav changes approximately every three and a half minutes..... Ok Ok - if i really try to answer this very tough question, I'd have to say.....hmm......man this is hard!!! I have to agree on Chased by Love....funny though - it didn't hit me the first few times.....not until I was listening to it on my IPOD at the beach and the song started and I thought "what is this"? as if I had never heard it before....It sucked me in big time. Travelling Alone, Impossible World and definately Brighter Still. How can I leave out One Last Round and Music to my Ears and This is How I Know? I think it really just depends on what mood I am in

Re: Exit Strategy - Favourite Song
Ronsongs do that -- they sneak up and clock ya in the back of the head. Sign of a good songwriter. I still remember when "How On Earth" hit me. At first I thought it was kind of corny. A few weeks later ... shaBLAM.

Re: Exit Strategy - Favourite Song
I had a massive shaBLAM with "Right About Now"......for years, whenever I heard the first few seconds of the song, I couldnt get to the CD player fast enough to change it!!!! One day - I was searching Ron's videos and I came accross this one.....It is now one of my all time favorite songs which Ron so kindly sang at the last live concert I saw. There are a few others that took not just weeks or months but YEARS to grow on me!!.....and then they end up being faves.

Re: Exit Strategy - Favourite Song
Hi all Nice to read everyones comments "Chased By Love" is a tough one even for me to explain I guess it's about how often times our hang-ups and fears, insecurities etc seem to stem from our childhood and sometimes as adults they present themselves when triggered and we do or say things we regret and act immature THat's basically what I was getting at..I think Ron

Oh, it's about ME then.
:) Thanks Ron -- most songwriters wouldn't want to explain a lyric -- much appreciated.

Re: Exit Strategy - Favourite Song
Thanks for the insights Ron. That is so true! It's so easy to get hooked into an old fear before you even know what's happened. Chains of freedom? Chains of trust? Chains of mystery? Great lyrics that you can dwell on. Great tune also. I thought Slim's spin on it was good too. For me I think it touched on my conflicting desires to both hide who I am and at the same time to be recognized and to be set free. I'm enjoying the whole album very much. Thanks for all this great music. -M .

Re: Exit Stretegy - Favourite Song
"Thoughts and Prayers" was my early favorite, although it's been joined now by four or five others. So much spiritual music nowadays -- at least in the U.S. -- comes across as calculating and insincere, and driven at least partially by commerce, so it's nice to know that there are still some authentic hymns out there being written.

Re: Exit Stretegy - Favourite Song
I bought the album the day before yesterday as my birthday present to myself, and two days later I am embarrassed to report that already I know this album freakishly well. I very much love This is How I Know, which I fell for while Ron toured here, but the other standout so far is Hard Time. I'm still developing a relationship with the album, but these are the first songs I've bonded with. We'll see how it goes from here.
