    Ron & The Norwegian Chef

A friend sent me this: Ron playing "Brighter Still" in the kitchen of a restaurant?

Thanks Koen!  This is a totally bizzare video.....Ron - what's the story?

I love how the kitchen staff continue working away in the background, like Ron wasn't even there, or this was some everyday occurrence.....too funny/strange!

It was certainly an unusual approach to a video Ron, but regardless of how it came off in the end, the song was bang-on wonderful!

Ugh, Ron, I'm sorry that our state broadcaster, NRK, put you through this. This is a regular feature of their mainly very good music show, Lydverket -- each week, they invite an artist to play a song in an unusual, non-studio setting. For example, Sam Beam played in a mall. Most have them have worked fine. But why they would ask you to play in a kitchen with indifferent cooks clanging pots around, god only knows!

Anyway, as I think you know, Norway isn't all bad. I'm counting the days till Nov. 15 at John Dee in Oslo!

Yeah, not funny, not cool. Yet I laughed at the pot-dropping part, and I feel bad about it. What's wrong with me?

Also, I thought this was going to be about the Swedish Chef -- the Muppet character...

you know? i actually like this video quite a bit. aside from the fact that Ron sounds wonderful, the noise and the kitchen staff going about their business and not paying attention to the music kinda goes with the idea of the song for me. Ron sings, "above the noise, i hear the bells"

he's talking about how we're not paying attention to what's around us, the environmental problems, but if we paid more attention, things could be better. if only we let ourselves be open to love: "for love has whispered down the wind, just like the whisper of a friend."

above the cacaphony of the kitchen staff, we hear a voice singing about love. it's up to us to listen and to not be distracted by the noise.

i think it's actually really brilliant. thanks for posting :)

well, I for one found the noise distracting Amanda and I felt it took away from a wonderful song/performance....I think it might have worked a lot better if we could have just heard Ron's voice and guitar, without hearing (just "seeing") the noise of the kitchen, with the video ending by allowing in all the outside noise.....either way though, i think it was still a great song!

I guess if I put myself in Ron's shoes I would have felt just a little out of place.  But actually, it wasn't too bad to look at. At first I thought the pots dropping were drums -- how did they get those in there--but that just goes to show you what a low-fi set of computer speakers can do for you. Ron just kept playing through that--what a pro!!  I guess it was intended to be "art", but didn't quite live up to its doomed lack of potential.

Unless "Brighter Still" was a comment on the pots not being washed thoroughly enough.

&&^%!!! Somehow I missed this when it was first posted, and now the link is not working any more. *sigh* I'll try googling the show, and see if that works - sounds too good to be missed. :)
