Re: Exit Strategy - Favourite Song

Since I went to the Madrid gig, I have so many equal favourites! Not just the songs that were played that were cast in a new light and took on a fuller significance, e.g. Music To My Ears, Poor Helpless Dreams, Impossible World, but also the ones that weren't that I've been addicted to since, and many of my faves from it were in that category, esp.Travelling Alone, which I find so moving, Brighter Still and Thoughts and Prayers. I also love Dawn Anna, very filmic, but ravishing.

It was a less immediate LP for me than most of the recent ones, but it's grown and grown. Well up there.

Re: Exit Strategy - Favourite Song

I wouldn't say I have a definite fav on this album but there is often a funny relevence to the one I'm listening to at the time.  For example, I pulled into a school parking lot today and that line "of recess and schoolyards" from Music to my Ears was playing and I could see all the kids running in the snow.  Great stuff.

Yesterday I took a scenic diversion through a pretty little cemetary - you know - just for fun, and while PLC is not on ESOTS, I thought of the song until I got stuck in the snow at which time I ceased to think of the cemetary as a fun diversion because I could not imagine having to explain the situation to the CAA tow truck driver.  As anyone would know and anyone could tell you, stuck is not a fun place to be - especially stuck in a cemetary pretty or not.  However, I continued to be reminded of Ron's lyrics, feeling as I was, a bit stuck between a rock and a hard time. I will spare you all the details of how I came to extricate myself from that situation.

Later, I saw horses walking through a snowy field to the rhythm of Spiritude on the CD player.  My day improved from there on.

Having said all that and forgive me for being a bit bloggy,  One Last Round, despite its chilling climate change message, gives me a warm feeling inside.

Just to clarify, I don't have a fave of one song over another on this album because each song is outstanding but for different reasons so ... that's why.  This is a great album.

    Hi Nathan,

I have been a Ron fan for about 5 years and have nearly all the albums. My favourite on the new one has to be "Travelling Alone." That is just so beautiful.

    Cheers,

    Bernie

    Hi everyone,

Glad to see so many votes for 'Traveling Alone' - I can't pick a favourite either but I just love that one, and was so happy to hear him play it last night at Richmond Hill

After about a year with the album, my favorites are Travelling Alone and Brighter Still. Just too hard to pick one. Smile

I just got the album and after a couple of listens This Is How I Know really stands out to me. Traveling Alone is also a great track.

It's good to find this forum and I can't wait for the new album (and hopefully a tour stop in Victoria or Vancouver).  I saw Ron at the Alix Goolden Hall in Victoria a few years back and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen.
