Earlier this week, it was announced that Ron is up for two Juno awards this year. He's up for Songwriter Of The Year and Adult Alternative Album Of The Year awards for Long Player Late Bloomer. You can see the full list of this year's nominees here.

Three new Canadian dates have been added to Ron's tour schedule and tickets are available now. Between February 10 and 12, Ron will be making Ontario stops in Windsor, Meaford and Alliston.

Tonight's the night! The Polaris Music Prize, the annual award recognizing the best in Canadian music, will be handed out in a ceremony tonight (September 19) in Toronto. The show will be broadcast live on Sirius XM and CBC Radio 3, and webcast live on MuchMusic.com, starting at 8 pm EDT tonight. The show will also air on Much on September 24 at 1 pm EDT.

Exciting news today: Long Player Late Bloomer has been shortlisted for the Polaris Prize, the annual award recognizing the best in Canadian music. Some of the other finalists, whittled down from the initial long list announced last month, include Arcade Fire, Destroyer and Hey Rosetta.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony to be held in Toronto on September 19. Keep your fingers crossed!

Don't miss the Canadian television premiere of Love Shines, the acclaimed documentary which follows Ron during the sessions for his new album, Long Player, Late Bloomer.

When we announced the first batch of dates for Ron's tour in support of his new album, Long Player Late Bloomer, we promised that more dates would be added soon. Today we're pleased to announce 13 new shows in the UK and Europe during the months of June and July.

Before the April 16 public sale date for tickets to Luminato's Canadian Songbook, the all-star event honoring Ron on June 15 at Massey Hall in Toronto, fans will have a chance to get the some of the best seats in the house through a special pre-sale. Starting at 12 Noon EDT on Monday, April 11 and running through 11:59 PM EDT  on Friday, April 15, tickets will be available at several price levels: $91.50 (guaranteed to be in in the first three rows for the first 50 tickets sold), $76.50, $61.50 and $26.50 (these are likely to have obstructed views).

Ron and his support act on the US dates, Caitlin Rose, will have two in-store appearances - April 4 at Music Millennium (3158 E. Burnside Avenue, Portland OR) and April 5 at Silver Platters (701 5th Avenue N., Seattle WA).

Both begin with Caitlin kicking things off at 6:00 PM and Ron doing a short set at 6:20. They will also stick around a bit following the shows to greet the fans and sign CDs. Ron hopes to see you there!

BBC's Radio2 has chosen "Get In Line" as their song of the week beginning Monday, March 28. The song will be featured heavily and given extra spins. The UK continues to lead the way in breaking Long Player Late Bloomer!

Set your PVRS! Ron will perform on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live this upcoming Monday, March 14. The show starts at midnight, but don't worry if you can't stay up that late (or don't live somewhere that JKL airs): The complete episode will be available to watch online after it airs.

As you may have heard, the title of Ron's long-awaited new album will be Long Player Late Bloomer. The album will be out in North America on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, and in the UK and throughout Europe on Monday, February 28, 2011.

Produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi and Michael Bublé), Long Player Late Bloomer was recorded in Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver during the first few months of 2010. The album features a star-studded cast of musicians backing up Ron in the studio, including guitarist Rusty Anderson (Paul McCartney), bassist Paul Bushnell (Elton John, No Doubt), keyboardist Jamie Edwards (Aimee Mann) and drummer Josh Freese (Devo, Nine Inch Nails).

Ron fans can get their first taste of the album right here on RonSexsmith.com. We're streaming the song "Love Shines" on the audio player, so go check it out. The track will also be available for sale on November 9 through iTunes Canada and in other territories to be announced soon.

Ron is planning an extensive tour of North America and Europe in the spring of 2011. Stay tuned for more details on that in the coming months.

Hi everybody...

Well we've just finished recording on my new record and so all that remains is mixing, mastering, album art and then hopefully we can get it out somehow in 2010. It's been a wonderful session from start to finish and I'm excited for y'all to hear it. With any luck I'll be hitting the road with a full band and a truck load of new songs.

Ron guests alongside a wonderful group of musicians including Sheryl Crow, Neko Case, and Jesse Winchester. On July 30 at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto, a very special evening of music was held to commemorate the re-release of Bob Wiseman's long out of print album In Her Dream. The evening saw a veritable who's who of Canadian music come together to celebrate the music of one of Canada's most fearless songwriter, including Ron and his trusted sidekick Don Kerr. The duo took the stage to perform the song "All The Trees" and video has now been uploaded for all to enjoy. Ron's classic "Maybe This Christmas" has established itself as an essential part of the holiday songbook in just a few short years. This year he's contributed another addition to the canon, with the just released, "Something To Hold On To (At Christmas)". Available for free download at emusic, this beautiful little tune is sure to get you in the spirit.

On Friday August 22, Ron was featured on RollingStone.com Rock and Roll Daily with a video performance of Brighter Still. This was taped earlier this summer in New York. Check it out!

On August 25, Ron will be the special guest of Squeeze at the Warner Theatre in Torrington CT. He will perform a full solo set and, who knows?... There may be some collaborating going on. Tickets are still available.

Some of you will have to get up early to hear Ron on the radio and some of you will have to sneak a listen at work. Either way, you will no doubt want to tune in to hear Ron live on the radio or via webcast in the following appearances: Thursday, July 3 at 2:30 PM local London time (that's 9:00 AM Eastern/6:00 AM Pacific), Ron will be a guest on BBC London's Robert Elms show. and on Saturday, July 5 at 12 noon local London time (7:00 AM Eastern/4:00 AM Pacific), Ron will stop by BBC Radio 2's Jonathan Ross Show.

On July 1, CBC RADIO Q will broadcast live from Canada House, Trafalgar Square, London with special guest Ron Sexsmith for Canada Day. The show will air on Radio One in Canada between 2-4 PM Eastern Time and then again from 10 PM - midnight Eastern Time. These airings will be webcast as well so fans around the world can tune in. Ron will be performing a few new songs from Exit Strategy of the Soul and will be interviewed by host Jian Ghomeshi. The show will feature other Canadian artists Guy Maddin, Zaki Ibrahim, Cadence Weapon and more.

On Tuesday, June 24, at 12:15 PM, Ron and band will perform a free, 45 minute set at First Canadian Place, the underground shopping mall in downtown Toronto. Following the set, Ron will sign autographs for HMV. If you pre-order Exit Strategy of the Soul during this signing, you will get the cd booklet autographed by Ron and can return to HMV after the release date for the full cd.

There is a favorable review of Exit Strategy of the Soul in the the July/August issue of Mother Jones magazine, out now.  Comparing Ron’s songwriting to Brian Wilson, contrasted with a “fierce, simmering intensity,” they say that “'Exit Strategy of the Soul’ is the perfect antidote to irony overload.”

It has been announced that Ron will headline "It's Always Something... Else!", a benefit for Gilda's Club of Toronto on June 24 at the Drake Hotel. Also on the bill are Sean Cullen, Kevin Hearn, Dala and many others. Gilda's Club is a non-profit support center for people with cancer and their families. For tickets, call 416 214 9898 x504.

Ron and many other Canadian artists will perform at Massey Hall on June 9 for The Canadian Songbook, a special event honoring the great Canadian songwriters that came before them, such as Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and more.

While in Oslo today, Ron will perform live on TV2's God Morgen Norge, will be interviewed on NRK P1 Nitimen between 10-10:20 AM and later in the afternoon, will visit NRK P3 Kompani Knutsen from 2:30-3 PM before finishing up at TV Norge Oslo TV from 4-4:30 PM.

New Tour Dates have been added - the first of the shows for 2002. Ron and the full band will play Japan in January. Keep an eye right here for more dates and Ron news for the upcoming year!

On Thursday November 29, Ron Sexsmith will visit The Iain Anderson Show which airs on BBC Scotland. All of you can tune in to the live webcast between 2:00 and 3:00 PM GMT, that's between 9:00 and 10:00 AM Eastern Time. Ron will play several songs along with the interview portion. Listen in!

As you know, Ron is admired by many of his peers. This admiration has led two artists to ask Ron to join them as a very special guest. Dar Williams has invited Ron to appear at the Beacon Theatre in New York on October 6 and Jackie Levin has asked Ron to co-headline a few shows in Germany, mid-October. BREAKING NEWS!!! Ron Sexsmith will be a part of the Canadian Country Music Awards, as part of the Hall of Fame induction of one of his musical idols: Gordon Lightfoot. The awards show takes place on September 10 in Calgary AB, Canada and will be televised. More details in the days to come.

In early June, Ron participated in the NXNE music conference in Toronto. One of the panels he was on was the SOCAN Songwriter's Panel. Also on the panel were Jimmy Rankin and Cara Luft among others. Now you can see what went on that day, just as if you were in the room! It will be archived for one year.

Ron Sexsmith is appearing this weekend at the Fuji Rock Festival, one of the most prestigious events in the world. Along with that, Ron will make a special in-store appearance at the Virgin Mega Store in Tokyo on Saturday July 28th, at 2:00 PM. The store is located in the Keio Shinjuku Building, 3-1-13 Sinjuku-ku, Tokyo. Ron will play a solo acoustic set, have a chat with the emcee and will stick around to meet fans and sign autographs.

Greetings everybody and welcome to my new site. We hope that it's agreeable to all those concerned. I'm also very excited to announce the first release date of "Blue Boy" in Japan today, May 21st! It will be followed closely by Ireland on June 1st and by the rest of the world on June 5th. I hope it'll be worth the wait. I'm looking forward to what will be a busy year on the road, with a new record, a new band and maybe even a few new jokes. Tomorrow night, Wednesday December 3, Ron's song "Maybe This Christmas" will be featured on Fox Television's new hit show, The OC. The characters Ryan and Marissa will be in a department store and the song will be playing. This show is known for featuring great music by more eclectic artists. Check your local listings for time and channel. Along with The OC, so far this season, Ron's songs have been in Ed, The Real World and Real World/Road Rules Challenge.

On Friday November 14, Ron will perform at a celebration party for Paul Martin, the next prime minister of Canada. It is quite an honor for Ron to be asked to perform. This is an important event in the eyes of Canada and, in fact, the world. Sadly, this is not open to the public and invitations are scarce but there should be plenty of press coverage... As always, any news of Ron can be found right here.

It's been a tough year thinking back on all the great artists we've lost. But I think Elliott Smith's passing, in some way, is the saddest because I believe he had so much more great music in him. I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions... once in LA in the lobby of the Roosevelt Hotel..and once in London at the Royal Albert Hall and both times I was struck by his shyness and kindness. It was encouraging for me as a semi-struggling songwriter to see him breakthrough and it always made me try that much harder. I was lucky enough to see him perform once in New York as well, which I remember as being a bit frustrating because he sat on a stool and I couldn't see him at all from the back of the room. Anyway, I wish he could have stuck around a bit longer but I guess the soul wants what the soul wants. The world will miss him very much.

As is pretty well known, Ron Sexsmith is a great fan of Gordon Lightfoot. When Ron was asked to participate in a Lightfoot tribute album, he was more than happy to do so. This tribute is out now on Canada’s NorthernBlues Music along with Borealis Recording Co. “Beautiful: A Tribute To Gordon Lightfoot” includes 15 tracks with performances by Bruce Cockburn, Cowboy Junkies, Tragically Hip and others. Ron performs the song “Drifters”.

Ron’s song “These Days” will be featured in the season premiere of the NBC television show Ed. This airs on Wednesday September 24 at 8:00 PM Eastern time. Some of you may recall two seasons ago “Foolproof” was featured very prominently on the show. Someone there must be a fan! Tune in... If you’re not already into this funny, quirky show, now is a good time to start.

On Tuesday, September 23, Ron will join together with Jerry Fish & The Mini-bug Club, Mundy, Steve Wall, Joe Wall, Katell Keineg, Nina Hynes and others, at Vicar Street in Dublin for a Tribute to Bob Dylan. Anyone who has seen Ron live knows that he is often likely to throw a Dylan song or two into his set list. It should be a fun night of music but more importantly, it is for a great cause. It's a joint venture benefit between Gorta/Scarlett which is working on a project in South Africa called "Grannies". In essence, they try to find Grannies to foster children whose parents are dead or dying of AIDS; there are literally thousands of homeless children as a result of AIDS in Africa. The money from this show will go to support the 'Grannies Project'.

New Tour Dates have been added for the second leg of the Canadian Tour. For the solo shows in Western Canada, Mad Violet will support. Kyp Harness will support Ron and the band for the remaining dates with Erin McKeown also on the bill for Toronto and Montreal.

Ron has been honored with an invitation to participate in the upcoming Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon on Labor Day weekend which benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Now in its 38th year, airing for 21 1/2 hours, the show begins at 9:00 PM Eastern / 6:00 PM Pacific, Sunday, August 31 and wraps up on Monday early evening. Ron will perform on the Sunday night - tune in and should you feel inclined to show your support to the cause, during Ron's segment would be a good time to do so. Hi all.... I've been pretty busy what with the Aimee Mann dates in Europe and The Wallflowers tour of the US, so I hope this is a better late than never situation. The shows have been going quite well, and The Wallflowers tour especially was one of the best times I've had on the road. They're a great band and Jakob writes truly wonderful songs. Thanks to all the people who came out to cheer me on as well as The Wallflowers fans who were very kind. In a few weeks I head out on what is probably the longest string of dates so far - a few weeks with Coldplay in the USA followed by Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, UK and (I think) Belgium. The fall is looking quite busy too, with possible Canadian and USA tours and another trip to Europe with any luck. So to close, I want to thank you all for your interest and your thoughts on the bulletin board. It's very much appreciated. Hope to see you all somewhere down the road.

So many new Tour Dates have been posted – besides the US dates with The Wallflowers and Colplay, you can now view dates for Japan, Australia and the UK. Even more dates will be added as they are confirmed. By the way, please note that there has been a change to the Coldplay tour: there is no longer an Albuquerque show but two nights in Denver.

We’ve also added a few new goodies to Links.

A few changes have been made to the Tour Dates. An April 30 Nashville date has been added to Ron’s tour with The Wallflowers, the two dates in Chicago has been changed to one date in Chicago and a new date in Madison WI. Also added, a June 2 second show at the Hollywood Bowl with Coldplay. As we always say, dates are subject to change so keep an eye on this site for the latest news.

Ron will be doing some shows with The Wallflowers in late April and early May in the USA. The confirmed gigs are now listed on the Tour Dates page of this site. Please note that there may be some Wallflowers shows in the same time frame on which Ron will not be playing so be sure before buying tickets. Between these Wallflowers gigs and the tour with Coldplay, Ron is now confirmed through mid-June. Keep an eye on this site for his summer plans.

Ron will appear at SXSW on Saturday March 15 at the Austin Music Hall. As this appearance is part of a music conference, there are no advance tickets but the general public should be able to pay at the door. Also on the show are Polyphonic Spree and Bob Schneider, among others.

And just announced: Ron will be on the bill with Blue Rodeo at Brock University in St. Catharine's Ontario on Thursday April 3. This is a fairly small venue - under 1,000 - so you might want to get your tickets right away.

Hi everybody -
We just got home from what turned out to be a great tour with Coldplay. I'm always a bit hesitant when I have to open up for an act, but we were all pleasantly surprised at the reception we got and what truly great guys they are. During the tour we managed to film a video for "Gold In Them Hills" as well, which I hope will see the light of day soon.

The biggest surprise for me though, came on the last night in Phoenix when Glen Campbell knocked on my dressing room door. (Apparently his son had turned him on to my stuff.) I've always been a fan and knowing he was in the audience made us all play better too. Anyway, I'm not sure what our next move is, but thanks again for all your interest.

Ron Sexsmith has been nominated for a Juno Award in the category of Songwriter of the Year for These Days, Gold In Them Hills and Former Glory. The awards will be presented on April 6 in Kanata Ontario; the show will be broadcast live on CTV at 8:00PM Eastern.

The Village Voice has released the results their annual Pazz & Jop Poll and Ron is on the list. Check out the Poll then search for Sexsmith and you'll see the results.

On Tuesday January 28, Ron will stop by Cactus Music in Houston TX for a quick visit. There won't be time for an instore performance but if you'd like to stop by and say howdy, Ron will be there at 3:30PM. The store is at 2973 S. Shepherd Drive; for more information, call 713 526 9272.

Ron and band will do a show in Toronto as a warm up for the Coldplay tour. The gig is January 17, at Hugh's Room, 2261 Dundas St. W. This is a small venue with only 200 capacity – it will sell out. Tickets are available ONLY through venue, either by phone (416 531 6604) or at their box office.

After setting a summer release date for Ron's upcoming album, it has been decided by all parties involved that the upcoming Massey Hall date be postponed. The new date is Thursday October 23rd. Current ticketholders, your tickets will be honored. Hello people... Sorry I haven't written much lately over the holidays. I hope they were good ones for y'all. I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy 2008. It's shaping up to be another busy year. With any luck there'll be a new record by the spring - just currently sorting out the mixes and worrying about everything as usual. Looking forward to the upcoming Australian dates. I'll be appearing in trio format with Jason Mercer and Mark Mariash. It's been awhile since I played with that set up so I hope it will be a good sound. (I was determined to bring some sort of band this time!) Other than that, I'm just trying to make a few resolutions and keep one of them perhaps. Hope to see you out there this year.

Now that Ron has completed his US Nick Lowe tour and wrapped up the band tour in eastern Canada, he should be relaxing at home, right? Well... not quite. Ron will return to the US as part of the "Blue Rodeo and Friends" tour. He will be playing a few songs each night, some solo and some with Blue Rodeo backing him up. Ron will stop by the Vicki Gabereau show on Tuesday, November 2nd for a live performance and chat. If you are in the Vancouver area and would like to attend the taping, here are the details: They tape the show at 750 Burrard Street in Vancouver. Audience arrival time is 10:45am and you must be able to stay until 1:30pm. Audience members must be 16 years or older to attend. Tickets need to be booked and can be reserved by calling 604-609 5721.

By now, many of you may know that Ron Sexsmith duets on a single in the UK called "Lo Mismo Que Yo (If Only)" by the Alex Cuba Band. The group, led by Alexis Puentes, is made up of sons of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club musicians. Their album, Humo De Tobaco was produced by Martin Terefe. The single, with vocals shared by Alexis and Ron, has garnered much attention at BBC Radio2 and will be released on October 25 (UK only at this time). You can pre-order the single online through HMV, Virgin Megastore, Woolworths and other fine online retail outlets. You can also do it the old fashioned way: walk into a shop on Monday, buy the single and take it right home.

Hi everybody... Just wanted to write and say how pleased I've been with current tour. We've been playing to some of the best and biggest crowds so far, which has been very encouraging. I also wanted to let you know that I've been reading the posts from the Message Board whenever possible and that I've found them all very heartwarming as I move around the globe. I'm looking forward to the upcoming shows in Paris, Japan and the UK and especially the Canadian tour which is shaping up to be quite a thorough one. Barnes and Noble thinks Retriever is Good Music! From today through November 4th, Retriever will be in the Good Music Program. That means the disc will be sale priced, advertised in Tracks and Paste magazines, on the B&N instore Red Dot Listening Systems and featured on the BN.com. If you haven’t picked up a copy yet, now would be a good time. If you have already gotten your copy, it’s never too early to start your holiday shopping!

Ron Sexsmith will be featured on the music portion of CNN's Headline News tomorrow evening, July 13. We have not been given exact times but it will be 15 minutes after the top of the hour starting anytime with or after the 6:15 PM Eastern time report and will re-air 5 times throughout the evening.

Ron is currently in Germany, participating in Century of Song, an event that celebrates the art of the song. Organized by American guitarist Bill Frisell who continues his quest for timeless and sometimes lost songs, this event is in its second year. Held in Bochum Germany from May through July and featuring past performances from Elvis Costello, Rickie Lee Jones and Vic Chesnutt, the upcoming shows on July 9 and 10 in the Jahrhunderthalle showcase Ron and Jesse Harris. They will be backed by a band consisting of Bill Frisell, Kenny Wollesen and Tony Scherr. During rehearsals this week, Ron and Jesse have been working up their songs with the band, singing duets together and unearthing some forgotten gems. For those of you lucky enough to attend: Enjoy!

Big news for Australia: Retriever will be released in Australia on June 14 through Shock Records . And for those of you who waited to purchase Retriever, your patience pays off - there will be a bonus track. "Madeleine Knows" is a song that Ron played on his last trip to Australia but it's otherwise new. The rest of Retriever is the same fine disc that has been getting great reviews by press and fans alike.

Ron’s song “Not About To Lose” is the kick off track on Nettwerk America’s Modern Day Troubadours. Released last week, this compilation also features Johnny Cash, Neil Finn, Jay Farrar and Daniel Lanois, among others. A portion of the profits from the sale of this disc will go to Big Brothers, Big Sisters. For details on a special promotion, please check the messageboard of this site.

On Friday May 14, the movie A Slipping Down Life opened in New York and Los Angeles. Based on the Anne Tyler book, the film was directed by Toni Kalem, and stars Lili Taylor and Guy Pearce. As the character musician Drumstrings Casey, Guy Pearce sings throughout the movie, including songs written by Ron Sexsmith. The soundtrack album is available on Commotion Records. A Slipping Down Life will be more widely distributed in the US in June.

The video for “Whatever It Takes” has been added right into heavy rotation on Canada’s MuchMoreMusic video channel. And Retriever made its debut at #20 on the Best Album chart in Sweden, the second highest debut of the week.

I've just returned from LA where tracking has finally been completed on my new record. It was nice working with Mitchell Froom again and I'm hoping the results will be agreeable to all those concerned. I'm feeling very excited about 2006 in general - I'm looking forward to hitting the road with the new record and playing for everyone again. The Massey Hall show will be a definite career high point for me... hope some of you can make it out to that one.

As you readers of this page know, a few weeks ago, Andy Kim was Ron's guest at the tv taping for Beautful Noise. Now Ron returns the favor, appearing at The Andy Kim Christmas Show, presented by CHUM FM at the Mod Club on Friday, December 2. Andy's other special guests are Esthero, The Hidden Cameras, Haydain Neale of Jacksoul, Jully Black, Shaye, Danny Michel and Andy Stochansky. This will be a great chance for you to hear Andy and Ron perform their Christmas song "What Ever Happened To Christmas?" as well as other seasonal favorites, old and new. On December 3rd, Ron and Don Kerr will perform as a duo at the Greenbank Centennial Hall in Uxbridge ON for The Greenbank Folk Music Society, a volunteer, non-profit group that has been dedicated to bringing the best Canadian roots and traditional folk and blues music to small town Ontario since 1993. The venue is intimate at just 95 seats. Ticket information and directions can be found at the website linked above. On Sunday, October 30, a Ron Sexsmith song will be featured in the television show Crossing Jordan. The episode is Total Recall and the song is Secret Heart. The show airs in the US at 10PM Eastern/9PM Central.

Hi all... I just wanted to take this time to express my condolences to all those affected by Hurricane Katrina both directly and indirectly. New Orleans is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and certainly one of my favorite cities to visit in the USA. I sincerely hope that in time they can somehow manage to rebuild and restore not only the buildings but the spirit and hopes of the people, their incredible culture and historic musical heritage.

Destination Unknown, the duet record from Sexsmith & Kerr is set to be released on June 13 in Sweden by v2 Music. Their website has a preview option for you to hear the songs now. In a ceremony held in Winnipeg on April 3, Ron Sexsmith was awarded the Juno for Songwriter of the Year for Whatever It Takes, Not About To Lose and Hard Bargain from his latest album, Retriever. The statue was presented to Ron by Hayden from Jacksoul, Sarah Slean and Canadian music royalty, Burton Cummings. Congratulations Ron!

In a feature article in the May/June issue of Performing Songwriter, John Prine talks about other songwriters:

Prine counts Bob Dylan and Hank Williams as early influences. He finds Williams exceptional because his weighty legacy depends on a catalog compiled in such a short period of time. Currently, he also considers himself a fan of Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe and Van Morrison ("because he sticks to his guns"). Among younger songwriters, Prine is particularly fond of Ron Sexsmith. "I love his words," he says, "but it slays me that somebody can come up with new, exciting melodies like he does. He's got his head turned in a certain way and he's saying this one thing, but he's saying it differently in all these songs."

Well, as some of you have mentioned it has now been 10 years since the release of my major label debut "Ron Sexsmith". As you can imagine, it brings to mind all sorts of memories, feelings and mostly a sense of relief that I've been able to continue all this time. The record itself, I'm still quite proud of. I met with so many different producers and the whole process was very confusing. I had a better idea of what I wanted to avoid than what I wanted to do. Fortunately I was able to work with Mitchell Froom who helped me pick the right songs (out of about 50 or so) and steered me in the right direction I think

The album initially was hated by most of the people involved at Interscope Records and almost didn't come out at all. When it was finally released in 95, it was with very little fanfare and almost no promotion so it was quite amazing and unexpected when Elvis Costello decided to hold it up on the December issue of Mojo magazine. That one generous act in many ways saved my shaky little career by creating interest in other parts of the world and forced the label to give it and me a second chance.

Although it didn't go on to be a big seller, it gave me a leg to stand on and platform in which to continue. When I hear it now, I can hear myself trying to find my voice. I had been listening to Little Jimmy Scott and as a result my phrasing was quite behind the beat. Mostly I was just trying do a good job because it was my first shot in the"big leagues". Mitchell insisted that I play all the guitars which I think ultimately made me a better player and Tchad Blake's sparse/left-field production created a slightly dark atmosphere to warble over. If you listen to "First Chance I Get" during the lead solo there are actual tree frogs squealing away in the background. On "In Place Of You" towards the end you'll hear Jerry Marotta slamming the door of his drum booth. Some producers would have edited that out but Tchad actually spent time trying to bring that up in the mix.

During the sessions we all stayed in a band house in Woodstock NY watching movies and drinking scotch and on one of our days off I got to play guitar on a track Suzanne Vega was recording for a Leonard Cohen tribute album. It was all pretty exciting for me looking back. I guess before I close I should also touch upon the alternate version of "There's A Rhythm" produced by Daniel Lanois. His moodier take was recorded in Quebec and Toronto and was brought on by the label's desire for me to re-do the entire record with Dan. It was kind of a stressful period because I just wanted it to come out as is and it was a bit awkward for Dan I think, to be in the middle of the conflict. We had a great time though, and best of all he turned out to be quite an excellent photographer and shot all the photos for the package.I'd like to think I haven't aged too much in 10 years :O)

Well in closing, I want to thank everyone for listening - all the various artists and music critics who said nice things about the record and saved me from the bottomless pit. Here's to another 10 years.

Ron returns to Massey Hall in Toronto on May 4, 2007. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday, August 16 at 10AM for Friends of RTH/Massey Hall and to the general public on Monday, August 21 at 10AM. A great number of worldwide Tour Dates have just been posted. They cover Japan, Germany and the UK among others. These are all the dates that are confirmed at this time. More dates will be added as they are confirmed so if you don't see your hometown on the list, keep an eye out and your fingers crossed.

We are thrilled to announced that Time Being will be released in Australia, July 29 on Warner Australia. Ron fans down under will be able to pick up the cd in all fine retail outlets. Stay tuned for Australian tour dates to be confirmed as well.

We will be closing the Forum later today for maintenance. After a few minor fixes and a little bit of clean-up, we'll be back.

"Gold In Them Hills" from Ron's Cobblestone Runway will be used in the series finale of the television show Love Monkey. This airs Tuesday May 16 on VH1 at 10PM Eastern and Pacific Times. If you don't know about Love Monkey, it's the story of an A&R rep for a record label who is still all about the music. It stars Tom Cavanaugh, formerly of the television show Ed, which, as you all may remembered prominently featured Ron's music on more than one occasion.

Ron will be featured on Bravo Canada's "Arts & Minds" series. A crew followed him around the Junos and leading up to Massey Hall. The show will air several times: on Bravo Saturday, May 13 at 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM; Sunday, May 14 at 7:00 PM. Additionally, the show will air on all CityTV stations at 12 Noon on Saturday, May 13 and 11:30 PM on Thursday, May 18 as well as CP24 at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 14. All times are Eastern Daylight Times.

Now that all the excitement of the Massey Hall show has dimmed (though it will be long remembered), it's time to get down to the business of the release of Time Being. Worldwide release dates will be posted soon. In the meantime, All In Good Time is making strides at radio in Canada. Ron will once again be participating in a very limited number of dates on the Bluebird North tour. The shows are February 16, 17 and 18 in Halifax, Moncton and St. John's, respectively. Hello everyone... its been awhile since I've submitted anything so here goes. This year has been quite busy with touring and recording. A few months back, I was in the UK working on my next record with my friend Martin Terefe. We took a little time off and last week we resumed work on the album in Havana Cuba of all places - now that was a pretty interesting trip. As you can imagine there's really nothing Cuban about my music and we're certainly not making a "world beat" album (or even "Graceland") but we did get some cool horns and percussion on a few tracks.

This summer will be busy with a mini tour of Spain and a bunch of festivals in Canada. We're still focusing on the USA with possible residencies in Austin and NYC coming up and hopefuly another tour as well. I'm also very much looking forward to the Canadian east coast shows in October. Those dates will be posted soon.

Just a few more days until Ron makes his return to Massey Hall in Toronto.
Last year's show was a dream come true with family and friends in attendance - and of course, there was Gordon Lightfoot. Many of you have made plans to attend, some of you are still waiting. On Friday April 6, at 7:30PM, Ron will be appearing in the round with Pam Tillis and Michael Martin Murphy at the Historic Scottish Rite Temple in Shreveport, Louisiana as part of the live performance television pilot “Secrets of the Heart”. Opening the show are rising songwriters Corinne Chapman and Stephanie Chapman, as well as a special performance, by Paul Reisler, of a song written by the children of Shreveport as part of Kid Pan Alley. We are pleased to announce that John McDermott's On A Whim: the songs of Ron Sexsmith is now available. The album, co-produced by John and Ron features well known and loved songs such as Gold In Them Hills, Thinking Out Loud and Foolproof, and some lesser known tunes like It's All Too Much, Your Guess Is As Good As Mine and the title track. One of the original members of The Irish Tenors, on his own, John McDermott is a prolific recording artist and works tirelessless on public and private philanthropic causes. He is currently touring the world behind the release of this lovely album of Ron's songs.

Hello everybody - It's with a great sense of relief that I was able to get through the USA tour. Pretty much from the beginning, my voice felt a little weak and then after a few shows it had completely failed me. On top of that, I came down with one of the most stubborn colds I've ever experienced. So I just wanted to thank everyone who came out for their patience and understanding. I hope the shows didn't suffer too much. For all the folks in Virginia, I'm excited that we will be coming back through in March to make up for the one show we cancelled there. This year is still young (and so is the album, at least in America) so I look forward to getting back down there for some more touring opportunities both with band and solo. Somewhere in all this, I'm hoping to get started on my new record so that it might have a chance of coming out in '08 - I'm quite excited about the new tunes. Well, I guess that's about all for now. Ron has been nominated for this year's Juno Awards for Songwriter of the Year (All In Good Time, Never Give Up, Hands of Time) and Adult Alternative Album for Time Being. The Juno Awards will be held on April 1, 2007 at the Credit Union Center in Saskatoon and will be broadcast live on CTV. Nelly Furtado hosts.

On Sunday, February 4, Ron will be the guest on KLSX-FM 97.1 in Los Angeles for the show Media Whores. It is hosted by Roy Trakin (Hits Magazine) and Dave Adelson (E! Entertainment). It's a fun show and both guys are obviously very educated on music and are fans of Ron. He will be on air 5-5:45 PM Pacific Time. Tune in to 97.1 or listen via the webcast. Ron will be the musical guest on Late Night with Conan O'Brien tomorrow, January 9, on the day of the US release of Time Being. He and the band will be performing a song from the new album. Check your local listings for time and channel.

Ron will play the famous Knitting Factory in New York and the brand new Knitting Factory in Los Angeles! The three night stint in New York City is November 3, 4, and 5 and the Los Angeles appearance is one night only, November 28. More information will be forthcoming but it is recommended that you purchase your tickets in advance for these shows.

On Tuesday, October 3rd at 12:30 PM Pacific Time (3:30 Eastern), Ron will make a live appearance/performance on Channel 103.1 in their Studio C. You can locate this at WorldClassRock.com which is an internet only music channel. Tune In!

It was "Several Miles" that both moved me and surprised me the most: To hear it without any studio production, layers in the guitar melody seemed to emerge which I'd never heard before. The reviews just keep pouring in! Peter Fitzpatrick sent a great account of the show in Dublin, posted in full on the Bulletin Board. News on the tour from Colm in Ireland: "Reporting in on Ron's HQ show here in Dublin this weekend gone. It was a brilliant evening out! Ron was in excellent form, the best we've heard from him yet! Seeing him out there alone on stage, he can really hold an audience. This was his best show ever for me as he finally played my favorite song! He did a fantastic version of a dylan song too. He played some songs from the new album (can't remember the names - sorry) and from the sound of them we're in for another round of great songs! And to think he apologized for coming back so soon! In March, Ron Sexsmith went to Dublin to tape John Kelly's Mystery Train radio show. Ron's show will be broadcast on Wednesday June 21st on RTE 1 at 8PM (Dublin local time) and will be simultaneously webcast. Be aware of the performance time: 8PM in Dublin is 3PM in New York (Eastern Daylight Time). If you are unsure of the time difference where you are,a helpful site is The World Clock. Here is an update on the War Child Canada Benefit that Ron Sexsmith is participating in on Thursday June 1st: Ron will be performing with a band, not as a solo act. Ron Sexsmith has been named "Founding Canadian Patron" for War Child Canada. He will headline a show in Toronto on Thursday, June 1st, launching their summer series of concerts. Ron Sexsmith played Uppsala Sweden on Monday, April 3rd. The next day, a great review was posted in the local newspaper. The translation is a bit dodgy, here are some highlights: "Ron Sexsmith left his band at home and tours Sweden with a guitar as his companion. But, of course, he creates magic anyway... There is no question that he is as good as it gets anyway. He sometimes sings more sensitive and naked than ever before and in between songs he talks with the well known Sexsmith irony like 'enough talking, I have too many hits to play.'" The writer goes on to say that Ron played favorites like "Idiot Boy", "Right About Now" and "Secret Heart", plus two new ones, a Ray Davies cover and a duet with Ana Egge before finishing up with "In A Flash". By the way, we're pretty sure Ron didn't literally sing naked. But then again, we weren't there...

Hello all, Just completed a small tour of the UK concluding with 2 shows at London's Jazz Cafe. Along the way, I recorded a song for an upcoming Ray Davies tribute album and I also sang on a track which I wrote with Glenn Tilbrook (from Squeeze) for his solo album in the works. The first three dates of the French tour (Amiens, Nancy and Besancon) have been cancelled by Stephan Eicher, whom Ron was to support. Unfortunately, someone in Stephan's organization is ill. The tour will start on Wednesday, March 1, in Orleans France.
